Post memorial day hello :)
This memorial day weekend featured a number of big-time music festivals and events, and we hope you were able to enjoy the holiday weekend in some manner. Maybe you tripped to Summer Camp to rock out with Umphrey’s, Janes Addiction, Common, and the rest of the troops in Illinois. Maybe southern MN was your destination, at Bella with Big G, Sphongle, Primus, and a host of others. The Minneapolis area itself hosted the annual Soundset event, put on by the Rhymesayers collective. A TON of people showed up to party all day long in 90 degree heat, with headliner after headliner droppin’ rhymes until a nasty storm came in around 7:30 pm and forced an evacuation of the festival. And we definitely can not forget DEMF, where the techno folks join forces yearly to cherish the roots of EDM and look into the future as well. Maybe you chilled around home, took the boat to the lake, or grabbed a rooftop dinner somewhere. No matter what, we hope the weekend was kind to you. Read more›

Pretty Lights leads lineup
Ultra-versatile producer, performer, and entrepreneur Derek Vincent Smith aka “Pretty Lights” has taken the world by storm with his electro organic fused hip-hop styled masterpieces. Ever since he made a name for himself in the festival scene in 2007, Pretty Lights has been on an incredible streak of tours and festival performances. From headlining extremely popular music festivals like Bonaroo, Electric Forest, and Lollapalooza – Pretty Lights will be back in action this festival season to headline the Summer Set Music and Camping festival in late August. Umphrey’s McGee Announced!
According to their website biography, Umphrey’s McGee only guarantees two things…”you never know what you’re going to get, and Umphrey’s always delivers”. This is what we’re hoping for when the band takes the main stage at Summer Set Music Festival!
These guys from Chicago have been a staple in the nation’s progressive rock jam band scene since they first got together in 1997 and they have been a constant presence in the summer music festival scene since they played the first annual Bonnaroo Music Festival in 2002. From that time on they’ve headlined seemingly countless events including a few in Minnesota such as Weekend at Harmony, 10000 Lakes Festival, and of course their annual multi-night events at First Avenue. Big Gigantic to Headline
Saxophone. Invented in 1846 and originally gained popularity as an instrument for European military bands. In the 1920’s its purpose transferred to a better known genre of classical jazz and later into more wide ranging categories of music: opera, symphony orchestra, electronic music… Wait, what? You heard it. As the electronic music scene takes over the world and leaks into mainstream media it becomes harder and harder to find raw talent outside the decks. However, Summer Set bring it big when it comes to the line-up, and one of the spotlights this August is on none other than Big Gigantic. Their forte? The soulful saxophone.
