GRiZ artist spotlight!

by jacktrash - News

GRiZ
East Lansing, MI
Grant “GRiZ” Kwiecinski is definitely set to take the electronic music scene by storm. His remixes and original tracks have gone viral on the internet thanks to Sound Cloud and various music blogs. He has found support for his music through college students and festival goers alike, and has only just begun. GRiZ was attending the Michigan State, and almost graduated from the school before he found success through his music. In one of the few interviews GRiZ has done thus far in his career, he explains how he felt the need to leave school to accomplish his goals in a career that was blossoming in front of him. GRiZ has a style that has been influenced by electro-hip hop artists like Pretty Lights, Paper Diamond, and Gramatik. Very recently, GRiZ released a new banger of a single called “The Future is Now” that he debuted at Electric Forest this year. GRiZ also has big plans for his first full length album that will be titled “Mad Liberation.” Listeners can hear his unique sound and style and feel that this guy has big things to come.

GRiZ is still a young cat, but he is making big moves in the festival scene. This year, GRiZ was an all-star act at Electric Forest, where he completely flooded the smallest indoor stage with curious and eager fans. During Electric Forest, he collaborated with Gramatik and Dominic Lallie (Big Gigantic) to create a super group that they dub “Big GRiZmatik.” This act was one of the highlights of the entire festival. Since GRiZ is just beginning on his musical journey, there has been a crazy buzz about any show or festival that this dude is at. GRiZ also played at the Snowball Festival in Vail, Colorado to an excited crowd that showed him some love. Since then, he has played in Colorado a few more times and is adding more and more festivals and shows under his belt. You do NOT want to miss GRiZ at Summer Set this year!

White Panda will mash your brains!

by jacktrash - News

White Panda

The White Panda has been taking the world by storm since they joined forces. The White Panda was formed when two childhood friends had discovered that they had independently embarked on mashup careers in college. Dan Griffith and Tom Evans combined their efforts and the White Panda was formed  in 2009 with a single that had topped internet radio charts days later. White Panda’s first two albums “Versus” and “Rematch” saw the White Panda make it into Soundclouds top five most played artists in 2011. The White Panda has toured alongside some of the biggest names in today’s music including Mac Miller, Mike Posner, and they have shared the stage with Tiesto, Benny Benassi, and Steve Aoki. The White Panda released “Bambooyah!” their third full length release and will play Lollapalooza and Bamboozle before embarking on a tour across the United States as well as Canada. The White Panda has their own signature style to things with “Mashup Mondays” where they release a new track every week for their fans. Love Electronic music? Want to lose yourself in dance music? The White Panda is sure to have you in a trance when they take over the stage this summer!

Big Gigantic has been making BIG moves in the festival scene the last few years, and they’re only going up. Originally from Boulder, Colorado, they have quickly grown to headliner status and have made a large impact on the scene with their style. Their albums “Fire it Up,” “A Place Behind the Moon,” and “Wide Awake” have been huge hits at festivals around the country. The duo recently released a new album for available free download called “Nocturnal.” Big Gigantic is also known for glitched out remixes of popular songs like “Get ‘em High” originally by Kanye West and “Black & Yellow” by Wiz Khalifa. Both members of “Big G” have extensive musical backgrounds and leave no genre untouched from jazz to livetronica, to hip hop and dubstep. Big G brings it!

During their sold out New Years Eve show at The Riv in Chicago, IL, Big Gigantic debuted new stage production that changed the game for the duo. Since then, they have been touring the country with their electrifying shows and leaving crowds in awe all over the globe. Featuring two separate LED light rigs for each member, Big Gigantic’s shows are out of this world. Musicians Dominic Lalli on saxophone and Jeremy Salken on drums are a GIGANTIC element to the emerging crossover of indie electronic music.

Timeflies will make you smile :)

by jacktrash - News

Timeflies

Brooklyn

After having success through multiple viral music videos on YouTube, Timeflies has been living out their dream of touring the country and playing their popular songs for sold out crowds. Having found popularity with high school and college students alike, Timeflies uses a nostalgic approach to creating fresh takes on popular songs. Their most famous video/song is their take on the classic Disney tune “Under the Sea.” Their most popular videos are shared with the world wide web on Tuesdays, which the group cleverly named “Timeflies Tuesdays,” where they debut their next viral videos. Timeflies freshens up these “long lost songs” with banging beats and smooth, melodic singing and rapping. Timeflies visited Minneapolis for the first time last in January, and the show sold out 1500 tickets in advance. We are excited to welcome Timeflies to the Summer Set lineup!

blackstar

The legendary Black Star @ Summer Set!

by jacktrash - News

Black Star
Brooklyn, New York
http://blackstarhub.com/
http://www.blackstarmusicgroup.com/

When it comes to the development of a sound, the world of hip-hop has often been defined by the works of a bold few.  Black Star, made up of Mos Def and Talib Kweli, has been helping shape underground alternative rap scene since the year 1998 when they released their first album. Black Star’s emergence into the hip-hop scene came at a very crucial point in music history. Following the deaths of Biggie Smalls and Tupac, hip-hop soon became a world of chaos.  Black Star helped bring reconciliation in the wake of these deaths, and helped the world of hip-hop progress into bold new directions. Some of Black Star’s early work can be heard on Lyricist  Lounge, a release where rappers put their skills to the test along with other upcoming artists. In 2001 Black Star performed “Money Jungle” with Ron Carter and John Patton for the album Red Hot + Indigo which raised money for various charities that were devoted to increasing AIDS awareness. In the year 2006 Mos and Kweli appeared together in the movie Dave Chappelle’s Block Party alongside Dead Prez, The Fugees, and many others. Black Star contributed a new song “ Born and Raised” to the movies soundtrack. Black Starr performances are rare throughout recent history, and this appearance at the Summer Set Music & Camping Festival is a true treat for all.  If you dig hip-hop music you are sure to have a good time when Black Star takes the stage.

Mat Zo artist spotlight!

by jacktrash - News

Mat Zo
London, England
http://matzomusic.com/

At 21 years of age, Mat Zo is living the dream – part of a new breed of precocious, unrestricted DJ/producers that are making big noises without the one-dimensional genre blinkers of old. In the last 12 months alone, the London based producer has seen his boundary-blurring productions like “Superman”, “Rebound” (with Arty) and “Frequency Flyer” dominate the Beatport charts. DJs like the Swedish House Mafia, Tiesto and Above & Beyond hammer them at the biggest events on the planets, while Zo himself spends his time zig-zagging across the planet – rocking the crowds at events like Electric Zoo in New York, Audiotistic in LA and London’s SW4.

As anyone who follows his colourful twitter feed will know, Zo is a ranter as well as a raver. Laid back but full of creative fire, he’s still the music obsessed joker that his mates have always known – but somehow seems like an elder statesman at the same time. As a prodigious teenager, he took both the drum & bass (he records for Hospital as MRSA) and trance scenes by storm. Now armed with a discography of hits that would put some of the longest standing producers to shame, he has gone on to remix pop princess Kylie and become a leading light in both the drum & bass and trance scenes – occasionally topping the Beatport charts in both genres at the same time.

With his French-house influenced remix of Above & Beyond’s “Thing Called Love” getting support from Gallic underground hero Lifelike and his recent anthem “Superman” a favourite of Axwell, Zo has proved his chameleon-like capabilities to find fans in whatever sound he turns his hands too.

As he works busily behind the scenes on his debut artist album for Anjunabeats, Zo’s kaleidoscopic creativity is set to be unleashed in full force. With everything from French house to rock-riddled, funk-fuelled electro and hip-hop vibes already planned for the album, Zo’s genre-wrecking visions are set to be realised in the most explosive manner imaginable.

If you’re into progressive, trance, and electro music, you are sure to have a great time when Mat takes over the decks this August at Summer Set Music & Camping Festival!
