ACTIVITIES

While SummerSet Music & Camping Festival aims to bring you some of the hottest tunes around, there will also be plenty to do if you need to take a break from all the awesome. The festival will feature a whole host of activities to entertain those who wish to take a break from the music.

URBAN ARTS TENT

At the inaugural Summer Set Music Festival, RAW & Face Forward will showcase the rich arts scene of the Twin Cities in the Urban Arts Tent.  Free your mind and feel inspired by stopping in our tent and connecting with some of the most talented performing and visual artists of the Twin Cities. Feel the energy and power of multidisciplinary arts—drum circles, live graffiti, dance lessons, yoga, break dancing battles, fire spinning, face/body paintings, DJ sets and walk-through art galleries. Even a brief stop at our tent will leave you feeling re-energized and inspired.

RAW ARTISTS:

RAW:natural born artists is a nationwide arts organization that hosts monthly art showcases in more than 50 major cities across the country.  RAW exists as an organization to provide a platform for local, independent and emerging artists in all genres to network and connect with one another, gain more exposure and find a new audience.  Each showcase contains a variety of talent to include musical performances, a “pop-up” art gallery and fashion show to name a few.  Showcases have been taking place monthly at the Fine Line since June of 2011.  To get involved visit www.RAWartists.org.

FACE FORWARD:

Face Forward is a nonprofit booking and media organization whose primary golas are 1) to spread the benefits of performing arts to communicate throughout the Twin Cities and 2) to support the careers of local performing artists.  Face Forward strives to achieve its mission by partnering with community-based organizations in the Twin Cities metro, booking customized shows in non-traditional locations, hiring exclusively local talent and creating high-quality media that showcases local performing arts.  For more info visit www.faceforwardmn.com.

BEYOND THE MUSIC

Just days away until you pack your tent in the car, pick up some friends, and drive off to the distant lands of Somerset, Wisconsin. You’ve spent countless hours listening to the poly-stylistic sounds of Umphrey’s McGee, subtly bobbing your head to the mellow side of Big Gigantic, and getting goose bumps from Pretty Lights’ monumental drops. But just what kind of audiovisual experience are you really getting yourself into this August weekend? Sure, the multicolor lights of the stage will blow your mind, but look away for a second and you will find yourself surrounded by a multitude of media that transforms you into a new world.

You may walk by a drum circle with entrancing dancers brought to you by the RAW/Face Foreward artist tent and end up doing inversions on a yoga mat while a beat boxer provides you with a hypnotic beat. Or you may find yourself standing in awe of a 50 foot graffiti wall being spray painted by the HomeGrown Minneapolis crew depicting the lights and music blaring in the background. What will you do if you encounter a group of jesters? Faeries? Pirates? Will you join them in their adventure or walk by without a second glance?

What if they ask you to join them in body paint experience of Jacob Alexander and Virtual Warrior Ink? Getting your face painted by harlequins may just get you on the screens of a documentary! And while you may quickly return to the front row of main stage for the next artist, all the installments, creatures, and interactive experiences will remain just a step away.
